Try this at home - Sensory farm tuff tray!

Try this at home:

Sensory farm tuff tray!

All you need is:

  • Farm animal figures.
  • Cereal, for the farmyard. (Porridge, oats, pasta would work for this also).
  • Chocolate powder, to make muddy puddles.
  • Peas , for the grass! (Or anything green!).

Create your own touch and taste safe sensory farm scene, with bits from around your kitchen.

Mix chocolate powder and water to make muddy puddles for the pigs, use weatabix to create the fences for each of the animals, and cereal / peas as grass and ground!

If your child went on our visit to Belmont farm this week this is a great activity to extend on their learning and hear all about what they remember about the farm.

Cereal sensory play is a fantastic way to engage children in a fun, tactile experience that supports their development. Here are some of its benefits:

  • Fine Motor Skills – Scooping, pouring, and crushing cereal helps strengthen small muscle movements, improving coordination.
  • Language Development – Children describe textures, colors, and smells, expanding their vocabulary.
  • Social Skills – Sharing, taking turns, and negotiating during play fosters cooperation.
  • Imaginative Play – Kids can create pretend worlds, like a café or a construction site, using cereal as props.
  • Taste-Safe Exploration – Since cereal is edible, it’s a great sensory material for younger children who tend to put things in their mouths.
  • Multi-Sensory Engagement – It stimulates sight, touch, sound, smell, and even taste, making learning more immersive.
